Learning, and teaching, and inspiring people to lead where they were not sure they could.
Who inspires you and why?
Lin Manuel Miranda has evolved musical theatre, appreciation for American history, and social commentary on immigrants in our culture all by pursuing his passion for music and theatre. Along the way, he blended art, entertainment and commerce while staying true to his personal “why.” And, he did it all in an incredibly progressive and egalitarian way that benefited everyone involved in the process. Twice! (Oh…and, he’s a nice and happy person)
What do you think is “true” about leadership? (2-3 sentences)
I believe leadership is helping people connect dots between what’s needed, what’s possible and what will make something successful; then, inspiring action – regardless of the risks or where you fall in the “chain.”
Life milestones you are proud of?
A career highlight was helping build Mama’s Kitchen, a meal delivery service for people living with AIDS, as the organization’s first Executive Director. Mama’s is now more than 25 years old and one of the most beloved social services agencies in San Diego serving thousands of meals each day to people living with HIV and cancer.
If you could be a roadie for one band, who would it be?
Not so much band, but a show - Hamilton
